A TKC EXCLUSIVE ONCE AGAIN: MAYOR FUNKY'S PLAN TO PUT LIGHT RAIL ON THE BALLOT IN NOVEMBER SHUT DOWN BY JACKSON COUNTY!!!
Here we are once again . . . Mayor Funky has failed in the task of creating a consensus . . . This time with officials in Jackson County regarding his current light rail scheme.
The Mayor wants to put HIS light rail initiative on the ballot in November.
However, according to awesome, cool, well-connected, gracious and good looking sources (that TKC will keep secret forever) the Mayor's plan to put the issue before voters by November was recently shut down by officals in Jackson County during a recent meeting. There's just not enough money for it. Word is that County Exec Mike Sanders just doesn't see it happening.
Now let's put this simply:
THERE'S NO WAY MAYOR FUNKY IS GOING TO BUILD REGIONAL LIGHT RAIL IF HE CAN'T EVEN GET COOPERATION FROM THE GUY ACROSS THE STREET!!!
Once again, I think County Exec Sanders stays winning with this move because there's no reason he should go out on a limb for Mayor Funky's ego-trip that has yet to get a meaningful endorsement from any municipality. Also, there just hasn't been any plan to look at . . . Mayor Funky is waiting until the last minute to present any type of plan. His naiveté and inexperience have mislead him to believe that pushing this kind of thing will be easy and won't take a lot of planning. It's a common tactic of the inexperienced, cruel and manipulative to wait till the last minute and then demand obedience . . . I should know because that's how I treat the ladies. But I digress . . .
Without a lot of support from Jackson County . . . There's not going to be any regional light rail by the November election deadline. And just to be perfectly clear:
Mayor Funkhouser killed light rail in Kansas City!!!
So, what does all this mean?
As so many other people have noted before . . . Money is tight, the County is just recovering from layoffs, chasing a light rail scheme would be unwise . . . Again, it's a good move.
Like it or not (I don't), Clay Chastain's petition drive was the closest this town has come to a consensus on light rail. Every loser in this city has their own proposal for light rail (including me) but so far there is no definitive mandate from the public for a specific plan . . . That's really the fallout from the Mayor's decision (Mr. Peanut's actually) to veto what the voters had already approved . . . Who knew that Chastain could provide more leadership than Mayor Funky? Ugh.
Finally, this is yet another sign that Mayor Funkhouser has almost zero political capital in this town. He's uninterested in cooperation and still seems to be acting like king or a dictator whenever his mandates are challenged or ignored.
Once again, Mayor Funky's inability to form a consensus or engender cooperation has cost the people of Kansas City.

Bullshit. This is just the same old routine Tony. By the time November rolls around nobody will ever remember that what you said.
I hear that it runs way deeper than that. Funk has basically done NOTHING to put a mass transit plan together and Sanders and the other county execs are telling him to piss off. Funk has screwed this up.

I agree, I doubt we'll see a real light rail plan. Maybe it's best if Funk take a mulligan on this one.
Light rail is just one more thing we can't afford to build or operate. Please keep in mind we need to fund the TIFS and the 3 billion dollar sewer project.

I think to put together a plan would require a lot of money, people with brains and the approval of Jimbo Nutter Sr. The Co-Mayors don't have any access to any of these three things.
Other than for his own self proclaimed well deserved and needed pay raise, I am not sure where the money would come for a study and an actual plan. Maybe he can put the "arm" on his new favorite set of lawyer and real estate developer friends??? I am sure they would love to get him deeper and deeper into their debt (and from the looks of things and such related to his own home, being in debt doesn't seem to bother him). That being said, a note of caution to Dave Fenley et al (although I surmise you have figured this out)... a promise from these two buffoons isn't worth the weight of your own yard waste. And if you get them to agree to something in advance in front of too many people, you will be off to jail which can't possibly be worth it (even if you think you are too smart to get caught).
Funk is a freakin disaster. Maybe Sanders or the other county folks will step up and get this done for us.

we had a light rail plan (which needed amendment) until Funk and Jan Marcason killed it.
Cal Williford should be someone's bitch in a orange jump suit. Does he still have that narcotic's problem? Does the County do randomn drug testing for political hires? Has anyone looked at where he is getting his money to pay off the guy who took him to court? Is Sanders pressuring campaign contributors to show Cal a little financial love? I would say that Cal needs to be taken away in cuffs before he perverts anything else in the County or the Democrat party.

Listen Sander's appointees are paid way more than 80K a year and how many of them have judgments hanging over their heads or have to skip off to 12 Step meetings 3 or 4 times a week. And as far as Sanders himself, the man is a bundle of nerves who cannot deal with the simple reality that his is bald. So the whole county has to pretend that the natural rat hair rug he wears on his head "really looks real." I hope all those people in Brookside who want REGIONAL light rail will just remember that we could have had it in December 2008 if Baldie and the Junkie had not decided not decided that there was nothing in it for THEM.

Light Rail Lets All Ride Ride Ride. Funky will put his Troost Rail Plan on the ballot with an Arts and Cultural component and run it through the Bi-State law in Kansas.
It will fail in 24 of 26 wards and have a raw vote against of 65% and then we can all go back to fishing in Penn Valley Park and having a swig of Sneaky Pete Wine at the new library downtown.
