No Change for Kansas City School District, same old contentious leadership in power!!!

The news that Marilyn Simmons is the newly elected School Board President should sent a cold chill up the spine of anyone who is vaguely familiar with her reputation or the institution in general.

Interesting facts:

  • Simmons was hand picked by her predecessor David Smith.

  • Her ties to the Urban League and other (well paid) special interests means that the feeding frenzy for School District funds won't stop any time soon as far as special interest groups are concerned.

  • Remember that she was one of the ladies that former Superintendent Amato allegedly referred to as "bitches" which makes me laugh . . . Those of you who have worked with the broad can draw your own conclusions about the veracity of slur.

  • Along with Arthur Benson, she's yet another KC School District Board member who doesn't believe that the SHAMEFUL AND TROUBLING LATINO DROPOUT RATE MERITS CONCERN. She has been silent on the issue and hostile toward the Latino community as far as any question of her authority.

  • Ever been to a School District meeting? Simmons is the mean old lady who never listens, keeps telling people to shut up, disputes every question or angrily replying without listening. It's tough to spot her since a great many of her colleagues fit the same description.

Sorry, but for those with hope that Airick L. West would ride in on a chariot of fire and save the day . . . The election of Simmons is a far more accurate indication that Kansas City Schools are still screwed . . . As I've said before, the best option is simply finding any other alternative to this dysfunctional, corrupt and hopeless Kansas City institution.

    1. I think, really, when there really is no hope with this kind of Board governance the only thing we really have is the entertainment value. And this Board will be kickin' like the Rockettes.

    2. Simmons is actually really awesome.

    3. What we need to do is find a school district worst off than KCMO (if possible) and try to land her a gig there. She is another one that got a little power and it has now gotten to her head.

    5. I talked to some a former board member. That board member had nothing nice to say about simmons.

    6. Simmon's is an unqualified cunt.

The KC Schoolboard is garbage and the whole thing should be scrapped.

      Poor students and apathetic parents.

I've tried, but I can't afford to move outside of the KCMO School District. The best I could do was send my kids to "charter" schools - at least they're administered by someone other than the oh-so-fuckin'-stupid KCMO School District, so maybe my kids will have a chance to learn readin', writin' and 'rithmetic.

    9. Arturo Benson... how could this happened? Another crystal clear example of the people getting what they pay for and deserve. Alas, in this instance, they are putting the futures of their very own children further behind the eight ball.

When his run as a school board member is done, I wonder how much money he will have been able to drag out of the system during his gig?

    10. There's no hope for the school board. Lets make all schools charter.

    11. I truly believe that Ms. Simmons was bullied everyday of her life and the way that she treats parents and staff is her twisted way of getting back at everyone. She is going to be the cause (and I pray that this happens) for the state to finally come in and take this school district over!

    12. you know your school district sucks when moving to KCK produces better educational opportunities.
