I just found a new local blogger, a self-described "computer geek and burgeoning amateur motorcycle mechanic" . . . Be sure to check out the Kansas City Dilettante if you have a chance.
Recently, he filed a great post on the prospect of more startups being developed in this cowtown and the need for a more cohesive geeky community.
Things like PodCamp Midwest, which I'm sorry I wasn't able to attend. Things like the Hack Day that I'm organizing in a month's time. Things like The Kansas City Area Software Demonstration Project Meetup , which I will be attending. Hell, just geeks getting together for a beer, or coffee, or whatnot. We need a geeky community in this town.I couldn't agree more but then again I've always hated having any involvement with my colleagues when I worked as a freelance reporter and it'll be a cold day in Hell before I even consider drinking with the d-bags who claim to represent Kansas City bloggers.
But that's only the first step. Because we need to bring new geeks into the fold. We need fresh ideas. We need to make KC a place where the geeks want to be, and I'm afraid BBQ and roller derby aren't enough.
Still, I agree with the dude that community and cooperation are great things and help the progress of everyone involved . . . Sadly, the benefits of teamwork aren't always bestowed upon the most deserving and nobody ever got anywhere by being a team player . . . So I'm glad there are a lot of folks out there concerned with the greater good while I simply demand that someone pass me the ball. (Nullus)
Its a disappointment to see someone in the Gay March who you thought wasn't Gay.
ReplyDeleteBut then you think he must of been a catholick alter boy when he/she was young.
