Kansas City wants to get drunk outside!!!

A recent poll featured in the KC Biz Journal reveals that the people of this town don't want any restrictions as to how they get their drink on . . .
A bill introduced by Sen. Jolie Justus, D-Kansas City, would expand eligibility for annual festival liquor licenses, which allow the sale and consumption of liquor outside of restaurants and bars. The Cordish Co., developer of the Kansas City Power & Light District, opposes the measure, claiming that Kansas City officials promised that its project would be the only district to receive such a license. Proponents of the bill say that allowing districts such as Westport or Brookside to receive an annual license would make it easier to hold special events and level the playing field with the Power & Light District.
So far the overwhelming majority (85%) want Missouri lawmakers to expand the use of festival liquor licenses beyond the Power & Light District.

And while the survey featured a comments section . . . I have a feeling that most votes might have been signed with a burp.

I have to admit I'm in favor of this one as well . . . Drunk broads on the street makes their bad decisions even more likely if they don't have to lured away from a party.

As long as folks are sure to wrap it up and accept that there is risk in every aspect of this life: Public drunkenness is how Kansas City singles stay winning.

  1. That's hilarious...Cordish wanting KC to keep a promise.

  2. Frankly I don't think the proposal goes far enough. I'm totally in favor of being able to drink my beer in public, but I also want to be able to shoot my heroin in public as well.

  3. Justus likes drunk broads in the street too.

  4. Once this passes, then the nonsmokers can all drink outside and the smokers can feel free once again to light up inside the privately-owned bars whose owners have chosen to allow smoking inside their property!

  5. This is the type of thing that makes Kansas City a FIRST CLASS Cowtown. We will finally be able to drink anywhere anytime just like the other wild west cow towns, Abilene and Elsworth and Dodge City. It will fit nicely with the rest of the do it in the street mentality that the Hip Hop crowd at the Grand Emporium are famous for.

  6. I'll have alcohol in my new bar/restuarant

  7. If Cordish is interested in killing off our small business districts, they shouldn't be able to do it based on a statutory exclusive. The rest of the community supported the investment in Downtown and Downtown should support the rest of the City as well. Cordish's opposition is not good for the City just good for Cordish.

  8. Kerry Duffus is still walking? Your new bar will end up just like the Madrid and the downtown dog hole.
