Quindaro: The Play

Actually, this sounds kind of interesting . . .

“Quindaro,” is an original play commissioned by the graduate theatre program of the University of Missouri-Kansas City and presented with the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, will run at Union Station from Feb. 13-24.

Even better, they're going to enlist an actor people would actually recognize in the production.

Bill Cobbs . . . The crazy old guy from New Jack City will be the featured performer.

Here's more from the press release:
In order to protect runaway slaves who would cross the sometimes treacherous waters in their desperate search for a better life, Quindaro was formed with land provided by Wyandottes and economic resources of local white abolitionists, and became an important stop on the underground railroad.

A few of these families, white, black and Native American, still live in the area today, proud of the contributions made by their ancestors to the cause of freedom. For through these people, a special town was created in the true spirit of the American Dream. It remains today as an important marker in time, a shining chapter in American history that we should never allow to be forgotten.
And that's great but I don't really know if the play can capture the true spirit of the Quindaro area (street) that I know . . . A place where people are completely comfortable sticking with the best hairstyles of the 80's.

For instance, there's this photo that was just taken last year of a very handsome KCK family.

Anyhoo, check out more historical info online . . . Or, like TKC, just continue making dumb generalizations:
