Kansas City Fights FARC!!!

While the young woman featured above is kinda hot, the legacy of the Colombian group FARC is rather frightening.

The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia–People's Army (in Spanish Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia–Ejército del Pueblo), also known by the acronym of FARC or FARC-EP is a self proclaimed Marxist-Leninist organization, although is considered as a terrorist group by more than 31 countries.

It was established in 1964 as the military wing of the Colombian Communist Party. While the FARC originated as a purely guerrilla movement, the group became involved with the illicit drug trade during the 1980s,[4] which caused an official separation from the Communist Party and the formation of a political structure it calls the Clandestine Colombian Communist Party.[citation needed] The FARC-EP still claims to be a guerrilla movement. With an estimated 16,000 members[5], the FARC-EP is present in 25-30 percent of Colombia's territory, most strongly in southeastern jungles and in plains at the base of the Andes mountains.
Proving that the local Internet is the premiere "place" for political organization . . . A local blogger is leading an area contingent of folks supporting an international struggle against a group of narco-terrorists who are known for terrorizing the Colombian people.

The effort is called "A MILLION VOICES AGAINST FARC" and they have a facebook listing as well.

Apparently, there's going to be a march in Kansas City as part of an International day of awareness to protest FARC.

JOIN ONE MILLION VOICES AGAINST FARC - Feb. 4th from 4 to 6 p.m. at the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain.

Appreciate your publicity on anything anti-FARC. But it's ColOmbia. Columbia is that shitty town in Missouri or that overpriced university in New York. Colombia is my home country and one of the last places in this hemisphere you can go to the beach without irritating rich sorority girls chugging beach bongs and puking in the sand.

How is protesting a paramilitary group thousands of miles away in a jungle going to help anything?

The US, through our War on Drugs, has been supporting the far-right pro-government death squads that are fighting the F.A.R.C. (among other not so noble activities).

Protesting the continued existence of the FARC only encourages the continuation of the War On Drugs- which has killed more people than the FARC ever will. Let them fight out their own problems. Let their people decide if they are freedom fighters or traitors.

US out of Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Trinidad, Jamaica, Panama, and Republica Dominica! Stop fighting the War on Drugs on the supply side.

The problem lies with the manic stockbrokers, lawyers, and doctors hoovering drugs, not the peasant that grows coca to feed his family.

Here's an idea. Why dont you all take your ass's to Colombia and protest FARC. Take Rita with you.

Not one single person in Colombia is going to know you're taking up space at the JC Nichols fountain.

Ya'll are a bunch of dipshits.

The protest is nationwide (in Colombia) and worldwide. The media knows about it, and the biggest newspapers in Colombia are documenting it.

I have a big problem with bigots. I'm sorry there are so many close-minded people.

I have been wondering if the protest will make a difference. And yes, it will... Colombians will finally voice their hope for peace around the world. And that, for me, is enough.

Bea, calling me a bigot (don't really get that one, but allllright) doesn't change the truth: Protesting a paramilitary group that is fighting for revolution in columbia is only giving support to far right death squads and encouraging the further militarization of the War On Drugs(tm).

Last time I checked FARC-EP isnt a Paramilitary group. They are classified as guerrillas and you obviously don't care enough to research a topic before engaging in a debate. It's people like you that really make me laugh inside. No need to bitch slap you with my tongue because I've already made you look like the fool you are. Oh and for your information more wars have been won by propaganda and protesting. You capture the hearts and minds of people struggling for peace it dissolves confidence in supporters. The Columbian people are not fighting socialism or even the ideology of Marxism or Leninism, they are tired of the violence and FARC-EP represents a violent agenda.
They are using FEAR in an attempt to control people (there people) by the masses as well as manipulating foreign governments by playing the "Resistencia Card" You know what my message is to Luis Edgar Devia Silva aka Raúl Reyes of FARC-EP, I can't wait to see your punk ass on a U.S. flight compliments of my tax dollars and the U.S. Department of State. It will be a victory the day you are sentenced for your crimes against humanity, the Colombian people, my people (the three American Contractors) I'm sure a small cell with a metal sink and one toilet with a 20w bulb running 24/7 will serve well as your new home. Your ass belongs to the U.S. We will get you one way or another. I will smile when the DoJ posts the indictment and we get to see the pictures of you boarding the plane just like we did simon and sonia. Until then enjoy your stay in the Mountains of Colombia. It's only a matter of time before we find your ass.
Paramilitary designates forces whose function and organization are similar to those of a professional military force, but which are not regarded as having the same status.[1] The term uses the Greek/Latin prefix para- ("beside"), also seen in words such as paramedic.

The term paramilitary is subjective, depending on what is considered similar to a military force, and what status a force is considered to have. The nature of paramilitary forces therefore varies greatly according to the speaker and the context. For instance, in Northern Ireland, paramilitary refers to any illegally armed group with a political purpose, but in Colombia, paramilitary refers specifically to illegally armed groups which are considered right-wing (e.g. AUC), while illegally armed groups considered left-wing, such as FARC, are referred to as guerrillas.[citation needed]
