The End of a Kansas City Ice Age

Lee was formerly a local blogger but today he comes back to Kansas City for just a bit to bring some bad news for those of us who care about this town's history.

Lee documents the demise of the American Ice building nicely:
The American Ice building hasn't held any actual ice for many years. Word has it barbecue baron Ollie Gates who owns the land has plans for commercial development in the area . . . The American Ice building was also reminder of the turn-of-the-20th, corrupt-expansive, meat-packing-City-Beautiful Kansas City that has been slowly crumbling away, as these things often do, especially in a city as demolition-happy as is the City of Fountains.
Kinda sad and makes me fret that the condo boom couldn't actually save something worthwhile . . . Still, there's a lot of great photos to enjoy while a remembering a time when even the warehouses in this town looked a lot better than prefab parking structures.
