Aspiring actresses and models in this town could do a lot worse than to reach the pinnacle of a particular genre or kind of work . . . Even if that category is generally regarded as mediocre.
There's always something to be said for being the best of any field.
In that's spirit, this week's model of the month is Monique Gabrielle: Kansas City's b-movie queen.
The American model and actress was born Katherine Gonzalez in Kansas City, MO in 1963.
Gabrielle was the Penthouse Pet of the Month for December 1982 and spent the rest of the 80's earning significant roles in some of the decade's best B-movies.
Gabrielle racked up (heh) an extensive list of credits in flicks such as Amazon Women on the Moon, Night Shift, Flashdance, Chained Heat, Airplane II, Hamburger: The Motion Picture, Emmanuelle V and the Return of Swamp Thing.
Don't make the mistake of thinking that Gabrielle's career was simple that of a character actress, in fact she was a genuine B-movie legend from what was likely the golden era of B-movies.
Beautiful, buxom and shapely knockout Monique Gabrielle added an ample, alluring and invigorating dose of smoldering sex appeal to a bunch of enjoyably down'n'dirty horror and exploitation pictures made throughout the 80s and 90s.However, she's probably best known for her role as "Tracey" in the best Tom Hanks movie ever made: Bachelor Party.
Recently, Gabrielle got married to a porn director and she has worked on a few porn flicks as a producer.
Her last notable appearance was in one of TKC's favorite flicks "Fear of a Black Hat" as a dancing video broad.
And while I'm not one to encourage anyone's pipe dreams, I will note that there's a lot to be said for simply striving to entertain people. Kansas City's best b-girl, Monique Gabrielle, is a perfect example of a woman garnering a place in cinematic history because of a great rack, an open mind and a talent for earning roles in mediocre films that have somehow still managed to stay culturally relevant despite their lack of critical success but due to the adoration of countless fans.
