From the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2008 Statistical Abstract:
The average annual pay of Missourians is 6.4 percent higher than that of Kansans
Kansas ranks much higher than Missouri in the percentage of persons 25 years or older who have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
Kansans guzzled far more energy than Missourians.
Missouri much more effective at scapegoating Mexicans . . . Thank you Matt Blunt for giving us the edge!!!

That 6.4% is probably the tax difference between the 2 counties in this area.
