Steve Shaw is all smiles: Brave local newsie shares his story of addiction!!!

Before TKC Coverage

After

I have to give a lot of props to Steve Penn . . . His profile of formerly drunken KC Newsman Steve Shaw is one of the most inspiring things I've read in a long time.

It's amazing to see somebody actually admit they have a problem in the media and then work, seek help and battle a substance abuse problem SUCCESSFULLY in the public eye.
Back in Kansas City for a visit last weekend, Shaw’s memories took him back to the time and place when he hit rock bottom. As he sat at Gates and Sons Bar-B-Q last Saturday, tears began to roll slowly down his cheeks.

“It’s tough understanding how flawed I am,” Shaw said. “I’ve got a lot of shame. I’ve always been so stubborn. All I can do is keep my head down and remember how bad it was. I needed the fall to be big.”
Thankfully, Shaw is back on his feet and has another reporting gig.

Strangely, Shaw teamed up with God's bill collector Rev. Jerry Johnston for awhile but that's not really important . . . The real story is that the dude is doing better.

Someday I hope to be a better person as well and give up my penchant for hating on local media figures, politicos and consuming copious amounts of Dr. Pepper and Snack cakes. But that would require . . . An effort.

Steve Shaw is a good person and Im so glad for him. He elected to miss the MU/KU game to make sure he stayed out of trouble. Knowing him, that is a huge deal. Good luck Shaw and keep it up!

But someone save him from Jerry Johnson's clutches.

Modesty is key to recovery; arrogance indicates a forthcoming relapse.

Clearly, Mr. Steve is a ticking time bomb and the Minnesota State Police should be so notified.

What happens in the rooms stays in the rooms. Clearly, Mr. Steve violated that credo in a vain attempt to polish his bloody image in KC.

It's very important that Shaw teamed up with Pastor Jerry Johnson. Shaw couldn't of quit by himself without the help of Jesus. Its hard to explain it to Non-christians because if I did, you wouldn't get it.
With Jesus all things are possible. Without Jesus, nothing.
