Contemplating violence on Kansas City Streets will induce a headache
Last night on 31st a Kansas City security guard was SHOT IN THE HEAD AND DROVE HIMSELF TO THE HOSPITAL!!!
The sensational story simply confirms my assertion that the people of Kansas City are tough and willing to deal with the topic of violent crime. However, our political leadership simply doesn't have the stomach for it given that Mayor Funky has been in office almost a year and hasn't really mentioned the topic of violent crime that much at all, was completely silent during this summer's gang war and ranks crime in the bottom half of his priorities.

Of course it's not the Funkenmeister's fault, but he should be at the forefront of doing something about it.
Isn't that what Mayors are elected to do? Or do we just elect them and then kiss their butts because they are elected officials?

This story does make my head hurt. That guy is the toughest sumbitch I've ever heard of.
To control crime you must chase criminals down, haul their ass to jail, prosecute and imprison. The KCPD can't chase criminals in autos because someone might get hurt. The prosecutor's office will plea bargain it down to a smaller crime and the parole board will let them out after they serve half their sentence. They proved it in NY, arrest and imprison for minor crimes and the major crimes decrease also.
Of course it would be the Funk's fault and have nothing to do with the lack of Eastside leadership in this city.

They also tore down vacant buildings, removed graffiti and basically just cleaned everything thing up. Those are things the mayor would be responsible for.
