Members of the "Cauldron" cheer on the Wizards despite the lack of company

The Wizards don't have many fans but their few loyalists are EXTREMELY enthusiastic. A recent article from the LJ World explains: "The Wizards managed to attract only 11,586 per game in 2007. The pitiful crowds gave the team the unenviable distinction of being the worst draw in MLS." However, a group of diehards in sections 102 and 103 of Arrowhead Stadium known as "The Cauldron" keep things interesting. And that's really cool, but I still don't think we should build them a stadium.

I think a small stadium would work well for this club. If you include the proposed additional fields around the area for high schools and locals to use it would help a lot! I don't really like the proposed site for it but nothing else really comes to mind. I would say put it downtown but I don't think it would work out very well for that area. Should be in an area were the local residents and schools support soccer!

I'd rather support the Wizards than support some other loser pro team in Kansas City...and I'm not talking about the Royals. I'll support them too.

Ditto on the small stadium. Let's not fall for Tony's constant bashing of every good idea in Kansas City.

I think the best place to build the place is in Kansas. Eastside is bad news. Most Wizards fans are middle class White and Latino families.

I would say from going to about 10 games over the last few years that Latinos make up the majority (and best) wizards fans. They wear full wizards gear, buy assloads of concessions, don't drink at the game (drunks suck at sporting events), and bring their entire families.

It is like a marketer's wet dream.

I'm concerned that if you build it where bannister used to be that many of those JoCo whites and kansas-side latinos are going to shy away.

5:19 here, on the subject of the stadium one of the things I love about the wizards is going to see them at arrowhead.

But if it means more people go to the games and we have a team in 10 years, build it.

Still never got a straight answer from anyone in Johnson County why they wouldn't pay for the new stadium there. Too bad. The plan was really nice. It would have been like Heritage Park is for Pop Warner or Miller's Woods was/is for baseball.

Well, I'm not sure what "answer" you're looking for from "anyone in Johnson County"? Nobody in Johnson County has been asked to pay for a new stadium located there. The JOCO voters were asked to pay for a youth soccer complex, but never a stadium.

Did anyone ask you to build them a stadium Tony? I don't think you're qualified.

To the anonymous fan who said that Latinos make up the most and best part of the Wizards fan base... You're way OFF base..

Up until this season, the Latino demographic has largely ignored the Wizards unless the opponent was a Mexican side or included a large mexican name. Recently Chivas USA has also served to bring out the Latino demographic as well.

Yes they're in full gear, but it's usually the gear of the Wizards opponent or a Mexican professional team.

And if the weather is rainy, forget it....

That's not to say that there haven't been strides made this year, with the addition of La Porra to the supporters groups who cheer in the Cauldron, but to say that over the years the Latino demographic has been a large and consistent portion of the Wizards' fan base is delusional.

I don't know man, this is anon. from before. I saw a Crew v. wizards game recently and they were in full gear supporting the wizards. In my opinion they make up a large enough demographic that they should be considered.

anon 7:47: that was how it was pushed, as a 'youth soccer complex' but it was actually a youth soccer complex and a wizards stadium. For some reason, JOCO voters found this plan unacceptable.
