Is Kansas City an NAACP or NRA town?

One tidbit which has emerged from the talk of La Raza and the NAACP considering moving their conventions elsewhere over the Semler flap is the prospect of Kansas City getting the NRA convention (worth an more than $20 million) as some kind of conservative consolation prize with an even bigger reward.

People who are touting the NRA convention in the same breath as the pullout of the minority advocacy organizations are only revealing their elementary and dualistic thinking because the truth is that Kansas City needs all three conventions and should not be turning away any business based solely on the Mayor's stubbornness.

Anyone who has a real comprehension of the enormous gamble Kansas City has taken on the Sprint Center and Electric Avenue should realize that any kind of effort to brand this City as a conservative mecca and only cater to right wing crowds like the NRA will needlessly exclude so many opportunities.

If Kansas City wants a real renaissance and wants to pay off the tremendous debt that this town has incurred then now isn't the time to be turning business away or playing pick and choose based on silly political ideology.

Bottom line, the most important thing is to bring all kinds of business to Kansas City.

And Mayor Funkhouser promised this City fiscal responsibility but in this instance he has stubbornly let his politics get in the way of financial reality.

At a crucial moment in Kansas City's history Mayor Funkhouser's Administration is bogged down in political, ethnic and racial bickering and ignoring the more important business of Kansas City.

This town needs every convention, every bit of income it can scape together. Sadly, Mayor Funkhouser has shown no leadership in this area and has instead only led this city into a divisive and distracting political debate.

Finally, all convention business invariably brings increased activity of escorts and prostitutes to "service" any group of visitors to our fair city. The real crisis we face isn't over immigration and limiting the number of Mexicans in this town but rather making sure this City's women of the night work out and shape up their flabby Midwestern bodies in order to make a return visit to Kansas City more enticing. Seriously, keeping Kansas City tramps and hookers who really power the convention business in tip-top condition and fully supplied with lube, condoms and a cell phone (in case things get "thick") is something that would benefit this town not only aesthetically but also in terms of repeat business.

  3. I would want to stay there Ssidedem and I strongly support the NAACP and La Raza sticking by their principles

  4. You call this flap over Frances Semler "bickering? It's an all out assault on Frances Semler and Mayor Funkhouser. If I were Semler, I'd sue La Raza and the NAACP.

  5. "At a crucial moment in Kansas City's history Mayor Funkhouser's Administration is bogged down in political, ethnic and racial bickering and ignoring the more important business of Kansas City."

That is entirely inaccurate. Mr. Funkhouser has only chosen to address the attacks on Ms Semler on a couple of occasions. Far from being bogged down.

The only people bogged down by Ms Semler's position on the Parks Board is the pro-illegal immigration crowd.

Leave the poor woman alone and start worrying about real problems like the employers of those illegal immigrants who are exploiting them. Organizations like La Raza should spend less time aiding criminals and more time informing potential immigrants and the proper and legal methods for immigrating into the U.S. so once they are here they don't have to worry about ICE and the Minutemen...

  8. Ha,ha,ha,ha... Don'tworry Tony. The ontingent of ladies of the evening from the Westside will always find work, either with conventions or as "take-out".

NCR has seriously misalculated the political climate in the city as they pparently took the pulse at Tony's home.

According to impartial sources, opinion runs overwhelmingly in favrof Fukhouser/Semler and against Coercion/NCLR. Conviction; and I'm not talking of the kind most often found inte West side, requires that positions not be sacrified for in exchange of money,as NCLR wopuld demand the city to do. That would be the brand of capitalism usually ascribed to the "ho's" Tony likes to defend and promote.

  9. Damn, Tony, Darla Jaye reported today that your mommy was one of the folks banging on Semler's door and scaring the crap out of the 73 year old woman.
Don't even pretend that you are even remotely neutral on this issue.

  10. Yup, we need "all kinds of business coming to KC". Drugs, murder, prostitutes, car-jacking, hip-hop, all the good stuff that naacp and laraza stand for...

  11. The Mayor is having no problem doing his job. This flap is being manufactured to sell a paper that is failing and giving you something to type about. You are not neutral at all in this, but the Mayor is. He appointed her, he stands by his judgment. The Parks Board has nothing to do with political groups of any kind. The Mayor said this morning he is a liberal and doesn't agree with Frances' positions on some political issues but that she is certainly entitled to them. That is the American Way! The Minutmen are not armed, not hateful, but they do dislike lawbreakers. I don't have a problem with that. I am not against Hispanics, blacks or any other group. I am against breaking our laws.

  12. The entire issue is a bag of dicks. Everyone involved is a fucking idiot.

  13. "At a crucial moment in Kansas City's history..."

Geez, Tony, no wonder you can't get a job with a newspaper. Talk about editorializing and creating a story where there is none.

  14. The references to FFA and NRA in the Alm/Smith article were a coded message to elites outside the city: "It's still Cowtown."

  15. Niggers and wetbacks. Wetbacks and niggers. Go fucking home and stay out of my city.

  16. Kudos to 4:13 for finally identifying the real players in this issue.

  17. There's no getting around the fact that Funkhouser has done nothing but create enemies in the minority community. His reputation is getting worse every day as he snubs our events or has armed police body guards whenever he comes into our community.

Tony you ought to know that yesterday a group of Black church people wanted to talk about the immigration controversy and the Mayor snapped at them and said that he wouldn't answer any questions on the subject.

That's a great way to lead Mr. Funkhouser, tell people to shut up when they want to talk about the hottest topic in the city.

    He is a failure.

  18. I'm totally going to start a new non-profit called "Cells for Sex," giving the communities' old cell phones to ladies of the night.

  19. Not to put too fine a point on this, but Kansas City, Missouri is as geographically remote from every national border we have as is physically possible.

No one on the national or international stage gives a rat's ass what ANYONE from Kansas City thinks about immigration policy!

It's The KC Parks Board, for God's sake!. Do any of our parks border Mexico or Central America? Or even Canada?

Why should anyone, in or out of KC give a flying fuck at a rolling donut about someone whose minority vote has a marginal influence on how often the grass in Swope Park gets cut or how she feels about the larger issue of U.S. Immigration policy?

This isn't just making a mountain out of a mole's hill. This is more like making Olympus Mons out of an ass-zit.

I've never driven over an illegal Mexican on the way to work. But I drive over hundreds of steel plates every day.

    Get some fucking perspective!

  20. tony no wonder you were the first too break that story your mom gave you the copy of the letter. la raza and naacp need to get on with the correct business and not worry about a73 year old woman. tony did you ever stop to think that what would happened if the bunch of idiots incluuding your mom gave francis a heart attack and she died
i guess thats ok with la raza and naacp

  21. annony 8:53 is jealous because nobody reads his blog. TKC always has some kind of decent scoop and I don't care where it comes from.

I do think Onasis has a point but there's no use coming to this blog unless Tony has something to panic about.

Keep up the great work Tony. keep making fun of kansas city.

  22. It sounds like your gasping for air Tony. Bye bye "The Race and Naacp". Go to New Mexico, they'll welcome you with open arms.
Your making Mayor Funkhouser look really good in the eyes of people because he can't be "blackmailed" into removing Semler.
I told you this would hurt "The Race" in the long run.
As we say to one another....Adios Amigos

  23. Once again Xavier Onassis comes through with the best comment or post on Tony's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Xavier Onassis is wrong. It does make a different to other cities what Kansas City does. Cities are watching Kansas City to see how Mayor Funkhouser is dealing with this.
If it didn't we wouldn't have a Sprint Arena in the middle of downtown like St. Louis has.

  25. This conservative would like to know since when did we let Francis Semler, The Minutemen and Governor Blunt speak for us? They've turned our party into a party of hatred and break it but dont fix it politics. Most immigrants are good religious, conservative, moral and family loving people. I proudly share my congregation with hundreds. Since when did we give these hateful people the green light to attack men and women based on color. If we conservatives know whats good for us, we'll jump off this racist train before it takes us to the home of David Duke. Because that's exactly where Semler, These Minutemen thugs, Governor Blunt and this Ed Martin character want to take us.

If it means vote against these bottom feeding politicians then I will and will gladly bring a number of my friends with me.

  26. NoRacistHere

Its not racist when you stand up to rightousness.
Illegal means,"not according to or authorized by law."
Either you are afraid or don't understand what is happening here.
These electives do speak for us just like President Bush did when we went to War. Some liked it, others did not.

Wouldn't you think if the Minutemen were so bad. You would think we would hear it either from this blog or in the news.
I have never heard anything bad what the minutemen are doing.
    Unless it comes from Tony.
