As of now, killing bikers is pretty much legal
Mike Hendricks proves my point about the political motives of cycling advocates . . . Your freewheeling SUV days are just about over as the biking crowd moves toward LEGISLATING the rights of KC bikers with tougher penalties for anybody who hits a cyclist and thereby giving bikers the run of KC streets. Wonderful idea that should make KC look like the streets of Beijing circa 1978. Now that's progressive thinking from my favorite hack from The Star!!!

same fucking concept as higher penalties for hitting road workers. a 5000 pound death-mobile versus a person on a bike. if you hit a person on a bicycle or on a motorcycle, it was because YOU aren't paying attention! not that fucking hard to keep your eyes on the road.
It is not a "political motive" to want to keep people safe on the streets of Kansas City you fucking twit.
I think that if a driver breaks the law and as a result kills someone else, there should be tough penalties.
However, I also think that if bikers are on the road, then they have to obey all the same traffic laws, such as coming to a complete stop at stop signs and red lights, and clearly signalling when they're making a turn, etc. Additionally, helmets should be mandatory in all states.
I live with an avid cyclist and I know that some of the riding groups around town do not follow traffic signals. This really gives bikers in KC a bad rap.
I think increasing the penalties for crimes that are the result of negligence rather than malice is a very poor idea.
Vehicular manslaughter already carries a tough sentence.
Actually, no Frog PJs, its not the same fucking concept.
We have higher penalties for hitting road workers because every time one of them gets killed the state can be held liable if they didn't set up a safe work environment.
The state wants to prevent lawsuits from the families of dead hole-lookers, so you get a double ticket.
I am going to let the air out of 4 bike's tires today!
If a biker gets in my way and my grille gets all dented up by his bike and body, isn't that enough punishment?
More seriously, why should the penalties be made more severe? Does Hendricks think that people don't avoid hitting bikes because they think the fine is low? That's ridiculous and stupid.
WHAT THE HELL, PUNISHMENT ISENT GETTING YOUR GRILL DENTED YOU ASS,, IT WAS MY LIFE OT THAT OF MY KIDS THAT ALSO RIDE, YOU NEED TO GET A GRIP, AND HAVE THAT GRILL UP YOUR ASS. BEERLADY.
The Missouri Bicycle Federation needs to realize that there is now a provision in Missouri law to toughen the penalties for inattentive diving. Its called "Clutch's Law" named for a Motorcyclist who was killed in a failure to yield accident. The law doesn't apply to just motorcyclists however, cyclists and pedestrians are protected too. It was included in the "move over" legislation passed in the '06 legislative session. Penalties for failure to yield are increased to $1,000 and a 6 month suspension. The prosecuting attorney must charge the driver with the right infraction however
