"Close Call" is more than a bit hyperbolic. Landing gear not coming up is not a close call. Nobody was ever in danger.
A close call would be a successfully aborted takeoff roll due to engine failure, or landing after a catastrophic uncontained engine explosion, or regaining control after loss of hydraulic systems. Landing gear not coming up? Inconvenient sure, but *yawn*.
