Free trade, traffic and Republican promises

It's not exactly a pledge to stop pollution but lately Republicans are promising to stop development of a "super highway" from Mexico to Canada . . . One of the stops would be, you guessed it, right here in Kansas City.
Elements of the concept have roots in ideas pushed by private and state-level entities promoting commerce across the continent, they said, adding the notion of a federal project for a behemoth highway bisecting the heart of the country and erasing America’s borders is an urban legend that has spread wildly on the Internet and talk radio. The candidates, though, still want you to know they are against it.
Still, I like this issue because it's a win for both parties: The Dems can oppose it on environmental grounds and the Republicans might be able to stir up some anti-Latino sentiment. Everybody wins

Too bad the "super highway" is simply a figment of Ron Paul's imagination and yet another scare tactic used to sway (stupid) voters.

Exactly. This topic of conversation started as a tool for Republican scamartists to make money off of the fear of Senior Citizens through mail. Now, Republican elected officials are taking it mainstream and using it as a tool to run for office. How much lower can they go.

A highway for illegal immigrants to cross the border hidden inside a truck cargo. Look how much more money they will get.
A truckers dream

Oh it's true, Tony! I was in Texas last year and there were several newspaper articles about this super highway that included interviews with the developers and state legislators.

It's basically true, and the Repbulcians in Texas were all for it: multiple multi-lane highways flanked by new rail lines and other infrastructure, and the intermodal facilities in Gardner and Richards-Gebaur are major destination points.

But there is a nativist element that are talking about the "North American Union", which is more than just a monster highway pointed right at K.C.

I'm against the whole thing on environmental and economic grounds mostly, and if some right-wing loon wants to join me for some reason that I find questionable, I'm not going to abandon my opposition just to avoid being associated with that.

This whole topic has been turned into a tool to just put people in fear and bring in cash to lunatic conservative scam artists. As for Ron Paul that guy is a scam himself. He supported the very people that have continued to push through everything that he says hes against. Paintman is a disgrace to the education of America.
