This Smells Funky!!! BlogKC reports: Funkhouser puts some JoCo jerk in charge of a task force to reform KC's economic development policy

I couldn't agree more with the following statement from BlogKC: "So, a Kansan is in charge of deciding how to use the very the tax breaks that KCMO uses to compete for business with places like Johnson County. Isn’t that kindof like appointing a convicted felon to the Police Commission?"

Also, tomorrow I'm gonna try, try, try to write about something other than the Funky smell that has overtaken this town.

Tony's just green because somebody who's not a "demobrat" or Hispanic, or both, got the job...

Now he'll seethe in his basement stronghold of hallucination and continue his struggle against "the Man".... "The Man" being the Funkmeister who snubbed his momma over her ethnocentric tantrum. Hell knows no wrath as a woman scorned, and nobody knows this as well as her spawn... or should I say pawn?

  2. Overall I think this is a bad move but probably doesn't mean much. Given that the KC area is comprised of so many municipalities, there will undoubtedly be some crossover.

  3. Good point Charles. Another bad move. I have to admit, I always said that he was stupid, and completely agree with those that are saying that he is like the uncle nobody wants to claim, but man I didn't realize that he was this stupid.

  4. Tony,

Honestly, I don't think the Mayor could take a shit with a clean getaway and you not complain about it in some way. Seriously, let's try a little objectivity occasionally.

I realize that conflict and off-the-wall views make for a more interesting blog - to what point I am not sure - but fairness should be employed at some point.

I did have beers in JoCo tonight and it was not enjoyable due to the nats and plentiful douchebags, but I think Bill Haw has earned some credit by making a living in the West Bottoms. Give him his due.

  5. He couldn't 10:46pm because knowing him it would probably be on someones front porch; after he asked his wife for permission. Then he will say that he "googled the laws on shitting on front porches" and wasn't able to find anything that would make him think twice about it. That about how much respect his has for the community.

  7. This is an odd one even for Funkhouser. Again, I why he didn't take the public perception into account. Bill Haw is a great guy and he has helped Kansas City but it just doesn't look right to have an out-of-towner as the chair of this board.

All kidding aside, this one should have been avoided even if the guy carries out his duties with the zeal of a knight crusader...

It is impossible that there is no candidate who can satisfy the requirements in KCMO. It is just not very good political Tennis, and any tennis player knows that the key to winning tennis is to avoid unforced errors.

However, this is not a major one, but a very minute one.

  9. I doubt there are few good candidates that live in KC. Most all the big lawyers/businessmen in the metro area are so tied in with corporate welfare that there is not a chance they would want to upset the applecart. You have to remember these powerful guys all belong to the C of C, they play golf together, but more important they do business together. You need a maverick who doesn't care about all that to shake things up. Do you think someone at a large law firm is going to piss off their development clients just to do the right thing? Would a bank president risk losing a large company because they oppose corporate welfare? No way, and thats why the Chamber of Commerce always supports the most idiotic economic ideas.

Dude, I'm trying to be "statesman-like" here. The truth is that most often the interest of the populace is in direct conflict with that of the lords of capital and industry. But, the Funk-antagonists think that the same old, tired, self-serving elites of enterprise, tax-exempt-NGO's, "public-service" elites and political aparatchics are the answer to the problems they've laid out in our path.

In this case, it is not so much the level of expertise that carries the day, but the level of commitment, and that really is something that knows neither zip-codes nor state-lines.
