A local lady was inspired by a trip to Haiti and is now sharing her enthusiasm with the folks in Northeast KC. Her story was recently featured in the Northeast News and she also has her own blog to promote her "gallery & book store offering fair trade art & coffee, live music on occasion & the opportunity to simply enjoy life with others in an interesting neighborhood in Historic Northeast Kansas City."
Actually, this woman's efforts seem really nice and good hearted. Additionally, I'm glad Haiti inspired somebody to do something besides simply pack up and leave.
Normally I wear protection, but then I thought, "When am I gonna make it back to Haiti?"

well tony, i have to give you props on this one. this is the first post i have read from you in a long time that doesn't refer to a white person selling art as a d-bag hipster or call them a racist for making a living through a minorities culture.
ReplyDeleteit's nice to see someone buy al's boot shop. it's 3 blocks from my place and that area definitely needs a revival. in the NE news story they touched on everything that makes the NE so great. hopefully the kafe will inspire others to give the NE it's long deserved face lift.
Having been to that country myself, I sure hopes she does it justice. The conditions those people have to live in have made me forever grateful of what we have here in this country.
ReplyDeleteYou know, access to this blog and all. :)
Hi Tony,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the post. I'm sorry it's taken me until now to find it! I hope you'll stop in and visit with me sometime.
