The insane rise in property taxes in Jackson County is bad enough . . . But given the fact that it has been thrown away on the KC School District is even more of a disgrace. Thankfully, Jackson County Legislators have finally started to get serious about the problem . . . And after years of failure and the huge amount money that's coming out of so many people's pocket . . . There aren't a lot of people that think the expense of behalf of the broken school district is worth it:
Reacting to property owners upset about leaps in appraised values, the Jackson County Legislature voted 7-0 Monday to seek tax relief from the Kansas City School DistrictAll things considered, it's a good move and right in line with my suggestion . . . Which I believe was to tear down all KCMO Schools and sell them for scrap in order to really teach the students about productivity and public perception regarding the institutions that have pretty much failed everyone in the metro area.
Appraisal notices sent out last month will result in higher property taxes, depending on the success of individual appeals. About two-thirds of property taxes levied in the Kansas City School District go to the district.
Commercial property appraisals have jumped an average of 40 percent in thriving downtown areas, such as River Market and the Crossroads District, and some have quadrupled or even grown 10-fold from 2005 levels . . . The resolution the county legislature passed Monday asks the district board to voluntarily roll back its levy. The legislature will await a response from the district.
Often times these 'insane rises in property taxes' are because they've had a crooked tax assessor previously whose undervalued homes by half.
ReplyDeleteThis has been the case in two cities I've lived in so far. And the people who yell the most are the ones who are pissed they have to pay their fair share.
But I thought the casinos were the answer to our education woes.
