Funkhouser can't get cooperation and is rejected by City Council

With little support among the electorate, it's clear that the City Council is exploiting Funkhouser's lack of experience and support among KC's voters. The fact that Mayor Funky can't even build an alliance in order to work toward one of the platforms he campaigned on shows how weak his political leverage is at this point. KSHB reports: "Mayor Funkhouser introduced a resolution Thursday to appoint a citizens committee to write a new economic development policy. But, he received resistance. Councilmember Ed Ford led the opposition coming out with a list of 12 reasons why the council, not a citizens committee, should tackle the Tax Increment Financing problem. Only one councilmember even hinted at supporting the mayor's idea as he wrote it."

So Funkhouser tries to cut down on the TIF corruption and the establishment throws a hissy fit?

Seems like you should be supporting the Funk on this one.

Probably.

But I wonder if this means he can't build a consensus? And his inexperience is something I've been complaining (crying) about for a long time.

Funk is fighting for more public and civic involvement in the creation of the TIF/Economic Development Policy and you're rooting against him. Either you are confused about why the council is standing against him, your resentment for Funk overides your logic or you support a policy that ignores civic engagment. Which is it? Seriously I want to know...
