Barnes holding back Brooks part deux: This is a MAN's WORLD!!!
Remind me, if I'm ever in trouble or need a helping hand to never ask Kay Barnes for anything . . . I'm assuming she hooked Al Brooks up with Pat Gray who is running the worst smelling "silent but deadly" campaign this town has seen since Clay Chastain.
Also, these backdoor, downlow hookups with rich white males are downright unseemly and the news of them just continues day after day from Prime Buzz . . . An e-mail tip pointed this out to me:
"Tony, as a woman with almost 40 years involved in the local political scene I can't say I agree with all of your comments. But what I think you might have overlooked because of your misogynist bias is the fact that all of the people that Kay Barnes is going to for support of Al Brooks happen to be rich white males. It's as if she's attempting to set up the Brooks regime as a puppet administration for the same special interest which have had far too much influence over her years. Today there was another post on the KC Star's Prime Buzz regarding the subject."
I'm sure there was, because I've received almost every post from the Prime Buzz not only because people are basically generous and information wants to be free but also because they don't have anybody else to talk about it with and I'm all ears . . . But mostly penis.

I dunno, it just seems like simple math to me.
Brooks is pulling about 85% of the black vote. History tells us that blacks will rarely not pull the lever for a left of center black polician. They usually get 80-90% of their own community.
Whites are going 2:1 to Funkhouser. To win the election, Brooks just needs to appeal to a little bit larger amount of white voters than he already is.
Self described 'liberals' are going strongly Funkhouser, so maybe there is some inroads there once his opinion on social programs, indigent health care and school vouchers.
That poll would trouble me if I was Funkhouser. His support can either be viewed as 'broad' (self described 'liberals' and 'conservatives' are voting Funkhouser) or simply 'white'.
I'll put money on Brooks winning. Appealing to the possibility of lower property taxes by cutting ancillary city services isn't going to appeal to your eastside voter- since only about half of the eastside owns at least part of their own home, and a good percentage live in rent controlled HUD housing.
If Brooks can appeal to liberal guilt and/or Westside property owner concerns with his anti-crime message...I bet he wins.
FYI: I am unabashedly anti-Funkhouser. I did not vote for Brooks in the primary.

Interesting analysis, Gorilla. Perhaps you can tell us how this appeals to white voters when it's the county -- not the city -- that assesses property value and collects property taxes.

The city mayor can't raise or lower property tax rates by manipulating the budget. Perhaps you can point to a single program Funkhouser vows to eliminate, but I doubt it.
And the school vouchers argument is asinine because the city government doesn't budget a single dime toward education. It's a completely different governmental entity.
Get the facts straight before you start spouting off.
I've never been a big fan of conspiracy theorists, or Tony's 'tall Israeli' rants but this makes me wonder...
