Designs on KCK . . . KCMO design company relocates to KCK. Expect to see this happen more often as once again around this town: The Mexicans make it (relatively) safe and then the money moves in afterward. Also, most of WyCo is actually pretty nice with the added bonus of more greasy food joints than KC's frou frou fare.
Sledding: The "Wow, this is fun. Oh wait. I can't stop. Dear God this was a bad idea. I'm only 12 and I want to live" killer. Also, KCK authorities shut down hill (How exactly would you do that?) in the aftermath. Running, jumping and spinning in circles soon to face scrutiny.
our first summer here, my family visited a public pool and promptly got hassled and nearly drowned (no, there was no provocation, we were just swimming in the heat!) by "kids of a color different from ours." we had been raised without the stink of prejudice, so really didn't get it. my parents joined a private pool after that and we never had that hassle.
i refuse to subject my kids to that same possibility -- and notice i'm not mentioning the lack of hygiene or anything else that happens at every pool, whether public or private (but more prevalent at public pools that charge no fee, as i've discovered over the years).
Posting a link to the Kansas City Kansan is like the Wall Street Journal printing a front page sociology article authored by Jerry Springer.
True Story
I once submitted a story idea to those peons and stated that I wished to remain anonymous. If they didn’t particularly like my idea or thought it was awful I could totally understand that. I received a very nasty and judgmental response pontificating on the superior quality of a person that is a known scumbag in many circles.
I would have understood a general form letter response. But a commentary on the strong merit of a ghetto piece of shit was not what I was looking for when I simply submitted a story idea.
As a KCK resident it’s great to see a positive story. Just beware that the average Elementary School yearbook has more journalistic integrity then that rag.
