When (rich) white people work together there is nothing they can't accomplish!!!

Finally, there is justice for the man on the street thanks to the work of local cycling enthusiasts!!! The Missouri highway department is committing to build a $3.2 million bike/pedestrian lane by 2012 on the Heart of America Bridge.

Since most people working in these areas take the bus if they don't have a car . . . That means that this multi-million dollar project was undertaken specifically to benefit a couple of dozen white people with nice bikes who want to trek across the river for a bit of exercise. In other words, white people (and there is no argument that this group is completely comprised of white folks on expensive bikes) believe and have proven that their hobby should be funded to the tune of millions of dollars.

The term "white welfare" doesn't even begin to summarize the kind of privilege these pedal pushers have garnered. And at this point I even feel bad about referring to the folks as white because I'm sure there are plenty of working class white folks who would be disappointed to learn that highway money is being used to ensure that people on expensive bikes have a safe route on which to break a sweat. And to think there are still so many potholes in this town that have yet to be fixed.

Again, this kind of thing is just indicative of the gentrification that's being promoted by the local government in this town. A few people living in condos come with demands to turn downtown into Johnson County Jr. and everyone caves because these people are accustomed to getting their way. And yet again government officials have proven that the demands of a few people of the monied class mean so much more than the rest of the plebs who don't have the luxury of biking across the city for fun but would most likely rather have their highway money used for something that would benefit a greater majority of people on the road.
