Gourmet Coffee Will Save Kansas City!

I did not want to believe it but every time I turn around it seems as if the only support for businesses in this town comes when you are hocking luxury items. I don't know what kind of self-esteem issues a person would have that would enable them to pay for ridiculous stuff like a 5 buck coffee but it seems as if support for these schemes is certainly en vogue among government officials. Here's the latest bit of evidence that pretty much says that you shouldn't live in KC if your life isn't about luxury items:
The Missouri Department of Economic Development has approved more than $115,000 in Enhanced Enterprise Zone tax credits for The Roasterie Inc.

The agency said in a release Thursday that it has reserved tax credits for the five-year benefit period for $115,387 based on the company's projection of 18 new jobs and new investment of $2.9 million.
Nice. I'm thinking about starting up a luxury business as well. For a fee of only 10 dollars along with proof of condo or loft living status you'll be able to go into my storefront and slap a homeless person who will be there waiting for you with maybe a few stories about KC's history as a convention destination or maybe the transformation this town underwent during the New Deal . . . It'll be something preachy and then you can just wail on them without feeling guilty about not leaving a tip. But I digress.

Strange that not even a ridonkulous deal for pricey coffee won't wake this town up and maybe signal that the plan to turn KC into a hipster destination for only the monied middle classes is a recipe for failure.
