Smacks of revisionist history

How come so few people want to really examine the fact that Charlie Parker loved his dope every bit as much (probably more) than his music? I haven't finished listening to all of this report about the guy but what I've heard so far follows the standard reporting that only briefly mentions the guy's addiction rather than portraying it as the dominant figure in his life and death.
