So why did Freedom, Inc. endorse Wheeler?

I have no idea. Not a clue. The KC Buzz blog is turning into a kind of open ended question but I'm always surprised how many people in this town pretend not to know how politics really works.

Also, having a little bit of experience with political clubs I can tell you that they are vastly overrated in getting out the vote and they are mainly paper tigers. There is really only one recent candidate who has adopted a good net strategy but I'm sure that some day a local candidate achieve great success by turning to the Internet (like Howard Dean only not as crazy) in order to directly communicate with the voting public rather than relying on the media or these dinosaur organizations that are entrenched in old school, corrupt politics as usual.

If you've got a radio nearby anytime soon you can listen to Mike Sanders respond on Jerry Agar's show at around 4.

Ask Mike Sanders about those 20 lawyers who "loaned" money to Judge Neal.

I hear shes singing like a canary.

Katheryn Shields, her husband, Phil Carderella, Freedom, Inc. and Steve Glorioso concerned about the influence of Eastern Jack at the Courthouse? Hardly.

In 2000, McCaskill had advanced to the State Auditor’s Office. Notorious mob attorney (and former Carderella law partner) Bob Beard put in his name for appointment to Jackson County Prosecuter. Shields leaped at the chance to appoint Beard.

Beard was and remains an established Democratic voice in Eastern Jack. Yet, Shields didnt think twice about Beard’s close ties to organized crime or close friendship and regular breakfast meetings at denny’s with Callahan and Carns. Shields and Carderella knew they could bend Beard in the prosecuter’s office For Beard, the prosecuter’s job was merely his stepingstone to a judgeship. Why did beard’s Eastern Jack ties serve as no threat to Shields and carderella?

After Shields apointed Beard, he ran for election for prosecuter the following summer against a respected local atorney, Pat McInerney A former US Attorney, McInerney, is a native Kansas Citian and activ Democrat, with an established presence in the southwest part of KC. Shields and Carderella stuck with their crony, Beard over McInerney, over the pleas and protests of many of us shields lost friendships and respect over this race, especially mine

Yet, because of jobs, money and the Shields ties, Shields and Carderella convinced Freedom Inc. to lock arms with labor and the politcal clubs and endorse Beard. McInerney raised the money, receved several impressive endorsments and won the southwest corridor, but he couldnt overcome the machine. why didnt Freedom’s guys get mad about an Eastern Jack presence in the primary election of 2000? Big bucks. McInerney refused to pay.

Shields and Carderella had no problem tying themselves to an established Eastern Jack attorney (with clearcut, longtime ties to Callahan, Carns and others) when it served their purpoise.

Yet, now, when there is an independent voice on the scene. Sanders proved he is one they cant control. So Shields, Glorioso and Carderella are crying wolf.. Only in this case, the lable is Eastern Jack, no matter how false. Sanders, while he resides in Independence, won a alot of countywide endorsments including the Westport Landing Club, KC Pride, Four Freedoms, Citizens for County Progress (Shields club), Hispanics for Justice and Equality, and the Womens Political Caucus.

Bob Beard was an ok candidate for Shields and Carderella, because he was a do nothing prosecuter, with an eye on the door. His ties to Eastern Jack factions didnt matter then, but they have always followed their own set of rules.

Confusion? Ironey? Hypocrisey? Duplicity? Its all the same. Wake up voters. Wake up Kraske, Helling, Tully, Smith and the Star editorial Board. You are falling right into their trap.

A voter for Wheeler is a vote for Shields, Glorioso and Carderella, more of the same lies and insider government that we have had to suffer through for the past 12 years. Wheeler is so out of it, and not just because of his age, he doesnt know where he is.

Wheeler promoted African Americans when he was Mayor in office in the 1970s? SHAMEFUL that you must search back (nearly 40 years) to the 1970s to find record of Wheeler's performance to support your argument. Do you realize that Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan were presidents when Wheeler served as Mayor? That was so long ago that bellbottoms have come and gone twice since then.

How has Wheeler assisted minorities since he left City Hall? What did Wheeler do to help promote minorities while in Senate? Nothing.

This is why Wheeler's posters must attack Sanders and drag baggage from the 1970s to support their case. Wheeler has done nothing to support Kansas City in 40 years, except when there is a photo op.

I am going to puke if I must see one more of those silly silhouette signs with Wheeler's bowtie and hat, as if he is some sort of dandy. Wheeler doesn't care one whit about Kansas City, Jackson County, or the residents and taxpayers. Wheeler doesn't care about minorities, the members of Freedom or Jackson County. If Wheeler did, why didn't we hear about it before now?

Wait, let me correct myself. Wheeler does seem to care about some folks in Jackson County. Many of the bars in town are posting Wheeler signs...

It will be a tragedy for Jackson County if voters fall for the game. And, if Wheeler's team must resort to dirty campaign tricks to win the election, how much cleaner are they than the fine fellows who returned Bush to the White House? But, then, I do see many similarities...

I want a televised debate between Sanders and Wheeler, focused on issues, led by a trusted moderator. My mind is made up, but many have not. People are intelligent, if they aren't buried in dirt. Force the candidates to speak, openly, publicly, directly, on the issues.
