After putting many longtime Downtown businesses out on the street. Mayor Kay is now rabidly defending repugnant eminent domain laws.
Kansas City Mayor Kay Barnes told Missouri lawmakers Tuesday that her city couldn't turn itself around without sometimes taking private property. "We have to have the right of eminent domain" to use as a last resort, Barnes said.Clearly, it sure beats having to share the redevelopment wealth with businesses who have managed to stick it out through the lean years in KC.
What's clear in this article is the Mayor's blood lust for the kind of ultimate power that can rescind property rights. I haven't met a Republican or Democrat in this town who thinks that recent rulings concerning eminent domain make sense. This is yet another clear example of how out of touch our fair leader is . . . Be careful what you wish for. I hated that political hack Richard Berkley, then we got Emanuel "borrow, borrow, borrow" Cleaver. I hated him more, then we got Kay "borrow more" Barnes. I am pretty sure that when the dust settles, we will end up with Katheryn Shields, but after all the inevitable indictments come down, we might have a shot at clean city government I guess.
