Tasered Man had PCP & Cocaine in system
OR, KCPD now in charge of Karma and making sure we all get what we deserve.
Underlying message: You'd better be a law abiding citizen if you're in the custody of the KCPD! Which is enough to make your head explode but also completely exonerates the local cops of any wrong doing.
New Rule: Tasering a guy in handcuffs is okay as long as he's a drug addict. Apparently, the KCPD is out to curb relapse rates for those in drug rehabilitation. I'd be really surprised if this guy ever used again.

Hey mini-Alvin Brooks, dude was on PCP and crack, trying to fight these cops, trying to jump off a 2nd floor balcony, and got tazed. He was still trying to fight them shackled.
We all know that as long as a combative man on PCP is shackled, all is good, right? /sarcasm
I'm the first one to say "fuck the man", but this was justified and you know it.
I usually enjoy your blog a lot, but your stance on this is laughable.
In reality, this guy was going crazy the entire time they were a) trying to talk to him, b) trying to cuff him, c) trying to put him in a patrol wagon, d) driving him to the jail, c) holding him in the jail. When the autopsy comes back, the result will most likely be a cardiac condition brought on by exertion, aggravated by PCP/cocaine use, but why wait for all the facts when it's so much fun to rush to judgment? It's another chapter of the same old story, what does one do to successfully arrest somebody in that condition? We have had "man on PCP dies after being dog-piled by cops," "man on PCP dies after being hit with batons by cops," now it's "man on PCP dies after by tased by cops." We are all ears if you have any legit suggestions on what could have been done other than either shooting him or ignoring him and hoping he went away before he killed someone.
Dude...in my line of work, you see an unruly person on a PCP trip, you run in the opposite direction. Sometimes, I wish I had a taser, but that's not standard issue at my hospital...
Even though it should be.
I can't recall the last time someone hopped up on PCP was more harmful to anyone other than themself. This being said it is probably good that KCPD gets a few civilian deaths under their belts early in the year (quotas Tony, quotas).
I can sacrifice a junkie or three instead of killing the unarmed twelve year old who ran when told to 'freeze'.

Tony,
Once again - you have proven that you are an idiot by your comments. On another website (KC Star), you encourage people not to jump to conclusions - yet your comments are filled with insinuations that the police in KC are out of control. Why don't you take your foot out of your mouth and post a more appropriate comment. We already have KCVT-5 in this city to come up with tabloid journalism.... why don't you try to be responsible for once.

i just loved this guys dad on tv yesterday whining about how the po po killed his innocent baby. fuck that shit- dude got what he deserved. don't want to die in police custody? follow these easy steps-
1. don't do PCP
ya i know it seems like this shit more common than asprin these days but 'just say no' is a good idea if you want to live.
2. Don't do Crack
again... 'just say no'
3. When the cops show up to arrest your ignorant drug addled ass for beating yo babys momma DON'T RUN FROM THEM. It pisses them off and they WILL take it out on you.
4. Profit?
Will doesn't recall the last time someone on PCP hurt anyone other than himself? What insulated white guy suburban bubble are you in? Let's see...in 2003 there was that guy who murdered a random woman at 1701 Independence, then shot at someone on 71 Highway, then murdered another woman at 29th and Park, then was shot by police as he tried to murder yet another woman at Armour and Forest. Trying to pass this drug off as something recreational shows what a true dipshit you are. The police are just trying to hunt down innocent dopers eh? Oh by the way, I will do you the favor of not commenting on your insinuation that SOME people's lives aren't worth saving, in that the police should not intervene when someone is only hurting themselves. You are truly the worst kind of second-guessing morally relative talking head I've seen. The police are not paid to mind their own business and let PCP-crazed whackos "go off" until it passes. Your attitude would be totally different if this happened in your neighborhood, and you would lead the cheers to fire these cops if they just stood by while this guy went nuts.
Oh and when did we kill a 12 year old who ran from us? I missed that one I guess.
KCPD did kill a 13 year old unarmed kid... after he tried to run them over in a stolen pickup. I remember that from a few years back. I also remember the parents suing and winning a large chunk of cash from KCMO.
If someone tried to run me over with a truck, it would be safe to say I would shoot at them also.
I guess that means I should go put in an application for the KCPD.
Will, you're an idiot. Do us a favor and get a vasectomy.
Jazo,
You must come from the same school as Tony - only report the infomation you want.... and leave out the rest. The "unarmed" 13 year old kid actually had a loaded gun sitting right next to him in the seat - and had a quarter pound of crack in the truck (along with a pit bull) which he was delivering for his drug dealing mother. Yes - they got a settlement... only because it would cost more money to defend the lawsuit than it would cost to throw some money their way.
And.... it's funny that you have to go back almost 8 years ago (longer than 2/3 of the current KCPD officers have been on the Department) to find an incident for you to cite.
