The Ghosts of Kansas City

In one amazing post a local blogger not only perfectly describes his fondness for one of this town's often overlooked monuments but also completely exposes the illogical reasoning supporting the present construction boom that has captivated the city.
Local blogger Bill provides a bit of history:
Built in 1936, the building has housed political conventions and basketball Final Fours. It's been marred by a few contemporary additions, but Municipal maintains most of its original artful flair . . . I'm not going to claim that Municipal Auditorium is literally filled with ghosts. But I will say that its weight of time and history are very heavy. And then he paints a dim view of a future where city planners ignore the foundations of this town in favor of their own pipe dreams.
I was puzzled by the disregard the old building received in the debates leading to the groundbreaking on the new Sprint facility. Sure, Municipal's corridors are a little tight on the rare occasion when attendance passes 5,000. And the concessions can be spotty. But when premiere events currently held at Municipal don't attract much of a crowd, I don't know how they'll fare better in a bigger space.Obviously, this local blogger has yet to see the light ($$$$$) and all of the opportunity ($$$$$) that local stadium building will provide . . . If not for the people of Kansas City, then at least for professional athletes, franchise owners, out-of-town construction companies and a few lucky supporters that may or may not hold political office.
