Out of sight
The new and improved downtown KC doesn't have any more room for the poor and downtrodden anymore. The west bottoms will now host the Division of Employment Security, the Missouri Commission on Human Rights and the Missouri Department of Corrections. I guess that the people who need access to these agencies are no longer welcome in the redeveloped, resurrected and ritzy downtown area.
Many thanks to a reader who tipped TKC to a different angle regarding the move:

Don't worry dear reader, I'm sure Mayor Kay and other city officials have a plan for all of KC's disenfranchised folks. Something along the lines of a hot meal and a shower after a long train ride. These are showers, right? You wouldn't lie to me Kay? Would you?How convenient that the city needed to move these offices (and all the unemployed, unfairly treated, and paroled folks who visit them) out of downtown, away from the new entertainment district, and to the lovely West Bottoms. Don't forget that the existing location was just a short 4 block walk from the main bus terminal at 10th and Main, probably a primary source of transportation for many of the office's visitors ... how many bus lines do they have in the West Bottoms near the Gateway Building I wonder?
