Feedback: Groove Thang
I hope the author of this e-mail doesn't mind that I'm sharing this but it's really informative and worth reading. I received this e-mail in regard to my nonsensical Capoeira post:
Good to know. Thanks for the feedback!
I have studied the martial arts for a number of years. I actually got my black belt in a Japanese style in 2000. That said...My favorite part of the martial arts is having control of my body - and making beautiful moves. I would say that the martial arts are very similar to dancing. In Japan, teachers would make "kata" which was designed to allow their students to practice their martial arts moves under the guise of dancing - as formal training in self defense was against the law. SO, they pretended to dance while honing their skills at the art of keeping themselves alive. Having studied, I believe they are closely related...and there is nothing wrong with working the two together as they are born through each other. I would also consider both dancing and martial arts to be one form of self expression. Mutating either to express yourself better is - okay - as far as I am concerned.
Good to know. Thanks for the feedback!
